Match Report: Inter Lagos 0-1 Doma United
The win made it back-to-back victories against Lagos-based opposition, following our opening-day 2–0 victory over Sporting Lagos at the Pantami Stadium
Our matchday two win means we have continued our impressive start to the 2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL season with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Inter Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Saturday 5th September, 2026.
The win made it back-to-back victories against Lagos-based opposition, following our opening-day 2–0 victory over Sporting Lagos at the Pantami Stadium.
Our players were determined to maintain a perfect start and had to work patiently for the breakthrough. An early warning came when Adegbite tapped in a rebound from Rilwan Sadiq's strike, but the goal was ruled out for offside. At the other end, our goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius kept us in the game after a one-on-one save against Kamaldeen Lawal, in a collision that left him briefly injured before he recovered to continue.
Both sides were cautious from the start, with neither team willing to give away an early advantage. Inter Lagos looked to make use of home advantage, while our boys stayed organised and disciplined, waiting patiently for chances to threaten the hosts.
Bitrus Philemon received the first booking of the match in the 43rd minute, cautioned by centre referee Akpera Levi (Benue State Referees Council) for a foul on an Inter Lagos attacker. Inter Lagos also had a goal ruled out for offside before the break, and the first half ended in a stalemate.
In the 59th minute, Isa Muhammed, who had earlier replaced Daniel Simon, was forced off through injury, with new signing Uche Onwuansoanya coming on to make his debut. Abubakar Aminu and Edwin Stanly Ayiba were also substituted, making way for Aliyu Umar Gamagira and Shola Collins.
Our boys continued to grow in confidence as we searched for the opening goal, and our persistence paid off in the 71st minute. From a well-delivered throw-in by Haruna Abutu, Sadiq Ololade Rilwan rose highest to connect with a sublime header, beating Inter Lagos goalkeeper Bala Favour for his second goal of the season. The goal sparked celebrations among our reserved players and the few supporters.
We almost doubled our lead in the 81st minute when Yusuf Fantami shielded the ball and laid it off to Abutu, who found himself one-on-one with the keeper but placed his effort wide.
The team showed composure to see out the remainder of the game. Inter Lagos pushed forward in search of an equaliser and had a goal disallowed for offside in the 85th minute, but Doma United's defence held firm until the final whistle and secured a 1–0 away win.
The result gives Doma United back-to-back wins against two Lagos clubs to start their 2026/2027 NPFL campaign: a 2–0 win over Sporting Lagos in Gombe, followed by a 1–0 win at Inter Lagos. The result means Ibrahim Pius has also kept clean sheets in both matches.
Attention now turns to our next fixture, as we return to the Pantami Stadium, Gombe, to host Enyimba of Aba on Saturday, 12th September, 2026.
